Two hundred adults over the age of 50 took part in the study. After participating in a variety of positive experiences, tissue samples from the participants were analyzed, and lower levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines were found. Social connection and regular exposure to new and different experiences have also recently been associated with a reduction in chronic illnesses like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and cancer.
